Amazing
Amazing
Well maybe not ever, but this was close
It’s been 5 years since I visited another church on a Sunday morning. The last two weeks have been surreal. A few people have asked what we’re going to do or where we’re gonna go. All I know is I can’t be hands off too much longer; already starting to get the itch to teach again or lead worship. Having my jaw locked down has definitely turned out to be a good thing during this transition. If I could talk as much as normal it would be much more painful for all parties I’m sure. I’ve learned how good it can be to not speak many times, and now I feel stupid for talking as much as I have in the past. There have definitely been a few times I’ve wanted to in the past few weeks, but chose not to because of discomfort. Anyway all I can say for sure at this point about where we are going is; to the beach! Starting this weekend we’ll be doing the big Wingo family beach trip. Myself Kass and the kids along with Mom , Dad , brother and sister in-law are taking a trip to the beach for a week. It should be interesting; The normal routine of my Dad talking about where he wants to go eat each night because “that’s where the locals go” is always entertianing. Also pretty sure I’ll have to fight my brother at some point. Hopefully he’ll restrain from punching me in the jaw for now
We leave this Saturday and have a wedding to attend on the way, I’ll do periodic tweets and blog post.
I haven’t been posting much lately. Had a lot of stuff going on. The jaw surgery has been a long recovery and honestly I haven’t felt like writing much. The recovery has also conincided with the closing of Skyline. At this point, I can only share just a few thoughts. I know I ‘ll have much more to say as time passes. I think I’m going to do a series of post on the experience in the coming weeks or months. Working in ministry for 6yrs prior, now pales in comparison to the experience of helping plant a church, work there for 4 yrs, and then see it’s time come to a close. At this point I’m so grateful for the journey God has allowed me to go on and the invaluable things I’ve learned through being able to view things from different perspectives. There are 5 or 6 others that could write books along with me I know. I just don’t have the words right now; More on those people later…
I apologize for not updating everyone via the blog sooner. Most of my updates have come via twitter into facebook etc…
Anyway here’s a quick update:
The surgery went well on Wednesday although they had to do some extensive cutting because I was “thick in the jaws” according to my surgeon. (I’m guessing a few of you will get a good chuckle from that) I don’t remember much of anything from Wednesday and Thursday is a little broken up in my head. I got to go home late Thursday afternoon and just had normal swelling at the time. However , due to the “extensive cutting” I did develop some bruising and more swelling after they released me. The swelling has gone down quite a bit over the weekend, but the bruising has worsened. My lower lip and chin are still totally numb and that’s honestly the most annoying thing. It makes talking and trying to eat soup with a spoon difficult and even drinking through a straw. I visited the surgeon today and he says everything looks great and the feeling should come back slowly over the next few weeks or month. Hopefully my feeling will be back soon because I can only mumble right now. Other than that , I’m feeling much better and the pain is minimal. I don’t have much energy just from the lack of food I’m guessing. If your curious, I’ve lost about 14 lbs so far. If you have any questions, especially if your someone who’s thinking of having the surgery let me know.
Thanks to all for prayers and well wishes. I’m eternally greatful.
Thank you Dustin for pointing out this gem. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Only 5 more days until the surgery. My mind has been fixed on this upcoming event for the past few weeks. I went to have my blood work done for the Pre Admission Testing yesterday and I’m ready to go for my final consultation Monday afternoon. I did find out that I’ll have to be at the hospital at 6am on Wednesday morning for the surgery. I feel like I’m just spouting random facts at this point, because my brain won’t allow me to put multiple thoughts together without jumping back to the surgery. Anyway, more to come I’m sure….
Just had my last visit to the orthodontist before my surgery next Wednesday. They added some surgical hooks to my mouth to attach who knows what to during the surgery. I can’t believe it’s already here, time has flown. Anyway, found out that I’ll probably be having my wisdom teeth taken out during the surgery also. I go for the final surgery consultation with the surgeon a week from today July 20th; and then have the surgery on Wednesday July 22nd. I’ve seen some crazy before and afters of other people who’ve had orthognathic surgery, but I think my change will be subtle. I’m most concerned about the anethesia and the liquid only diet for 6 weeks. more later….
Here’s a quick catch up: Had a great weekend attempting to get settled into the new house. We had fireworks, ice cream, and outdoor movie at the church on Sat night. Still hope to get some before and after pics of the house up in the next week or so, but now my focus has turned toward the jaw surgery on July 22nd. I’ll try to keep everyone updated on that. I’m going today to have models made for the pre surgery consultation etc… That’s about it for now, I’ll leave you with this video of the Preamble in honer of the 4th (btw… I think most people watch this in elementary school, but I watched it my Sophmore year of high school at DHS. Acamademics at their finest
We’ve been in the process of moving for the last week almost. Hence my lack of post. I apologize and hope to get back to normal soon. I’ll also post some before and afters of our quick remodel. We’re definately not done. Have a long list of things we want to do, but the refinished hardwood floors and paint went a long way. More later, I promise
